9.1The secret for the non-envious.

“To you, who do not cavil (anasūyave), I shall now declare this most secret knowledge together with its realisation, knowing which you shall be freed from evil.” The one pre-condition Kṛṣṇa sets for the highest teaching is not intelligence or learning but the absence of asūyā — the carping, fault-finding spite that cannot bear another's greatness. Such spite closes the mind in advance; nothing can be poured into a vessel held upside-down. The teaching that follows is “secret” not because it is deliberately hidden but because it is hidden of itself from the envious and the closed, and opens only to the receptive.
