padārthaMeaning — Questions & Solutions
from Q&A with KnAKṛṣṇa first lists his “lower” nature (aparā prakṛti): earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect and ego — the whole insentient apparatus, gross and subtle. “But know My other, higher nature (parā prakṛti),” he says, “the very life-principle (jīva-bhūtā) by which this world is upheld.” The distinction is between the field and the life that animates it — matter and consciousness — both called his “nature,” both belonging to the one Lord. It anticipates the kṣetra/kṣetrajña analysis of Canto 13 and quietly places even the ego on the “lower” side, where it belongs.
