But in the case of those whose ignorance is destroyed by knowledge (of the Self), their knowledge, like the sun, reveals that supreme Reality.

5.16Knowledge and absolute absorption.

“But for those whose ignorance is destroyed by the Knowledge of the Self, that Knowledge, like the sun, reveals the Supreme.” The image is exact. Ignorance is not a positive thing to be fought and defeated; it is only the absence of light, and vanishes the instant the light comes, without struggle. When that Knowledge dawns, the mind is absorbed in the Supreme so completely that thought, intellect and very being rest in It, and “with their sins washed away by Knowledge, they go whence there is no return” (5.17). Absolute absorption is simply what remains when ignorance has been illumined away.
