from Q&A with KnA10.11(Destroying the darkness with the lamp of knowledge.)
“Out of compassion for them, dwelling within their own being, I destroy the darkness born of ignorance with the shining lamp of knowledge (jñāna-dīpena).” The image completes 10.10. God is not a distant giver but an indwelling one; the light He gives is lit inside the devotee’s own heart. Grace and self-effort meet here: the devotee kindles love; God, thus invited, lights the lamp — and the darkness that no amount of mere information could clear is gone.
