And at the time of death, anyone who departs, giving up the body while thinking of Me alone, attains My state; there is no doubt about this.

8.5The thought at death.

“Whoever, at the end, leaves the body remembering Me alone, attains My being — of this there is no doubt.” The last thought is decisive, and the reason follows in 8.6. This is not magic; it is psychology carried to its edge. The final state of mind is the concentrated residue of a whole life's tendencies, and it colours what comes next. Hence the enormous stress the chapter lays on how, and on whom, one remembers at the close.
