Those people who know what day and night are, know the day of Brahma which ends in a thousand yugas, and His night which also ends in a thousand yugas.

जो लोग ब्रह्मा जी के एक दिन की अवधि जानते हैं जो कि सहस्र वर्ष की है तथा एक सहस्र वर्ष की अवधि की एक रात्रि को जानते हैं वे दिन और रात्रि को जानने वाले पुरुष हैं।।

8.17The cycle of time and the process of manifestation.

Kṛṣṇa now sets the individual's death within a cosmic frame. “Those who know that a day of Brahmā lasts a thousand ages, and his night as many, they know day and night.” At the coming of that cosmic day all beings stream forth from the Unmanifest; at its close they dissolve back into the same Unmanifest (8.18–19), “helplessly, again and again.” The staggering scale is not offered to crush us but to loosen the grip of the little life: what looks permanent to us is a flicker in a rhythm of unimaginable breadth. And the whole rhythm, Kṛṣṇa will say, still stands upon something that does not move.
