7.13Where delusion begins — Māyā.

“Deluded by these three states made of the guṇas, this whole world does not know Me, who am beyond them and imperishable.” Here the mechanism of ignorance is named. It is not that the Reality hides; it is that the guṇas — the very texture of the mind through which we look — colour and distort the seeing, as tinted glass colours the light. “This divine Māyā of Mine, made of the guṇas, is hard to cross; but those who take refuge in Me alone cross beyond it” (7.14). Māyā is not a wall built to keep us out; it is the film on our own eye, and refuge in the Real is what dissolves it.
