from Q&A with KnA“The divine disposition is deemed to lead to liberation, the demonic to bondage. Grieve not, Arjuna; you are born to the divine estate (daivīm sampadam abhijāto’si).” Here is the point of the whole taxonomy — and its warmth. It is not offered so that we may sort others into sheep and goats (that would itself be a demonic conceit); it is offered as a diagnostic mirror, so that each may recognise which tendencies bind and which free, and choose accordingly. And note the tenderness of the reassurance to Arjuna: do not despair at the terrible demonic catalogue, for your leaning is towards the light. The classification is a tool for self-cultivation, not for judgment of the neighbour.
