Translation

Swami Gambhīrānanda · follows Śaṅkara-bhāṣya

And I am seated in the hearts of all. From Me come memory, knowledge, and their loss. I alone am the object to be known through all the Vedas; I am also the originator of the Vedanta, and I Myself am the knower of the Vedas.

मैं ही समस्त प्राणियों के हृदय में स्थित हूँ। मुझसे ही स्मृति, ज्ञान और अपोहन (उनका अभाव) होता है। समस्त वेदों के द्वारा मैं ही वेद्य (जानने योग्य) वस्तु हूँ तथा वेदान्त का और वेदों का ज्ञाता भी मैं ही हूँ।।

15.15“I sit in the heart; I am the source of memory and knowledge.”

“I am seated in the heart of all (sarvasya cāhaṃ hṛdi sanniviṣṭaḥ); from Me are memory, knowledge, and their removal (smṛtir jñānam apohanaṃ ca). By all the Vedas am I alone the thing to be known; I am the author of the Vedānta and the knower of the Vedas.” A verse of great depth. The indwelling Self is the source not only of remembering and knowing, but also of forgetting (apohana) — for even the veiling is His power (the yoga-māyā of 7.25). And the second half makes the sweeping claim that the entire Veda has Him for its one true object: all its rituals, hymns and enquiries are, in the end, feeling their way towards the Self seated in the heart. He is at once what the scriptures seek (vedyaḥ), their fountainhead (vedānta-kṛt), and their real knower (veda-vit) — the beginning, object and end of all knowledge.
