from Q&A with KnA“And entering the earth (gām āviśya), I support all beings by My energy (ojasā); and becoming the sapful soma [the moon / the life-sap], I nourish all plants.” Here gām means the Earth, not “the cow” — go has both senses, and context decides. K describes two sustaining functions: entering the earth, He holds beings up by His force (gravity of being, we might loosely say); and becoming the nourishing sap (the lunar, watery, soma principle), He feeds all vegetation. So “gām” = Earth. The verse continues the theme: the same Self that is the light in all lights is also the supporting and nourishing power in all matter and life.
