As the all-pervading space is not defiled, due to its subtlety, similarly the Self, present everywhere in bodies, is not defiled.

जिस प्रकार सर्वगत आकाश सूक्ष्म होने के कारण लिप्त नहीं होता, उसी प्रकार सर्वत्र देह में स्थित आत्मा लिप्त नहीं होता।।

13.32The analogy of space (and of wind, water, sun).

“As the all-pervading space (ākāśa), by its very subtlety, is not tainted, so the Self, though seated everywhere in the body, is not tainted.” And (13.33): “As the one sun illumines this whole world, so the Lord of the field (kṣetrī) illumines the whole field.” The Gītā returns, as it loves to, to its favourite images (recall 9.6, 2.24, 8.9). Space contains everything yet is soiled by nothing; the sun lights all deeds — noble and vile alike — yet is stained by none. So the Self pervades and illumines the entire body-field while remaining forever clean of it. The witness lights the play; the play cannot touch the light.
