from Q&A with KnA“My womb is the great Brahman (mama yonir mahad brahma); in it I place the seed, and thence is the birth of all beings.” The “great Brahman” here is mūla-prakṛti — primordial Nature, also called mahat (“the Great”) in the Sāṅkhya scheme, the first, undifferentiated matrix from which all differentiation unfolds. K’s image is deliberately generative: Prakṛti is the womb (mother-matter); He supplies the seed (the animating consciousness, the parā prakṛti of 7.5); and from the union all beings are born (14.4: “whatever forms are produced in any wombs, of them the great Brahman is the womb, and I the seed-giving father”). Prakṛti and Puruṣa of canto 13 are here re-imaged as mother and father of the cosmos.
